The most common type of camera is called the “Basic Point-and-Shoot,” an entry-level digital camera, it is best for those who would want to share medium quality small images and for those who would want to start familiarizing themselves with photography because it has limited manual features and a limited image resolution.

Next digital camera type is considered as the most expensive of all is the Digital SLR. This high-end digital camera gives more emphasis on creative control like manual and programmed shooting modes. Aside from having advanced shooting modes, its lenses exchangeable that enable the user to have higher quality of optical zoom with an image resolution of 5 mega pixels and higher.

Some of the major considerations in digital camera features include the resolution or image quality that is usually determined by pixels or mega pixels. If you want to have higher quality photos, opt for digital cameras that have high mega pixel because you can get more quality photos that can be enlarged without sacrificing the photos’ quality.

Aside from resolution, you should also consider the type of memory you’ll need. Today, major manufacturers of cameras provide external memory through a memory card that can be removed when it is full. This type of removable storage comes in the form of Compact Flash, Memory Stick, Secure Digital, Smart Media, and XD Picture Cards. Storage capacities, measured in megabytes that you can insert in the digital camera and when its full, you can download the files on your computer, reformat the device and you can start using it again. Another important feature newcomers should consider in purchasing a digital camera is the battery. Since digital cameras drain batteries quickly, it is best that you choose a camera that has rechargeable NiMH batteries because these are inexpensive and more environmentally friendly.
